Location
The tundra is near the North Pole and occupies a fifth of the Earth's surface. The most distinctive trait of the tundra soil is its permafrost. Plants have adapted to the cold climate of the tundra. Lichen is made of fungus and algae that allows it to grow on rocks and the dwarf-willow grow tightly together and low to the ground to protect themselves from the cold.
